David was thrilled to find this interesting gravestone at Grimblethope on the 19th July 2011 when the Walking Group had lunch in this churchyard.

It reads “In memory of Ann Scott, wife of Wm. Scott of Grimblethorpe.  Died of her 17th child on the 17th day of November 1792 in the 45th year of her  age A Soul prepared, dear heart, the summons came too soon, Swift was her  flight and short the road, ????? ????? God”.

The number 17 was clearly an unlucky number for this unfortunate lady.
