LOTTERY SUCCESS FOR SPILSBY U3A
Spilsby U3A is celebrating success after their application to the National Lottery’s Big Lottery Fund was approved last Tuesday (7th June 2011). Their application to run a series of computers courses for beginners was approved by a grant of £4,938 from the Big Lottery Fund.
Colin Gray, U3A Chairman, said “This is wonderful news that this grant application has been made by the Big Lottery Fund. This new, exciting and innovative project “Computers for All” will begin in the late summer.
We are in the Age of the Internet and we think everyone, regardless of their age, can benefit from learning how to use a computer. We expect to start these courses in late September and have already many U3A members who want to learn new skills and cannot wait to get started”.
David Stonehouse, webmaster and author of the lottery bid, said “Since Voluntary Action East Lindsey (VAEL) ceased last year there is nowhere in Spilsby where local people can learn or improve their computer skills. This project should allow U3A members to become proficient in using computers, sending emails and surfing the internet“.
John Crowhurst, U3A Treasurer, said “Each beginner will have a laptop to use at the course and take home afterwards for practise. Should they then decide to buy a computer, we’ll advise them on equipment purchase and help them set it up afterwards”.
